Navigation, Communication and Safety Outfit for Tenders

Tender electronics and LSA are the easiest part of a programme to under-specify and the hardest to retrofit at sea. We work with captains and flag administrations to define the outfit against actual operation — night use, charter passenger limits, MCA Workboat or REG Yacht Code coverage, beach-landing exposure — and integrate radar, plotter, AIS, VHF/DSC, EPIRB and liferaft selection alongside the tender's build schedule. Survey, servicing intervals and certificate trail handled as one file.

For multi-vessel electronics programmes and consolidated LSA service contracts across the fleet, see Superyacht Procurement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What navigation equipment is required on a superyacht tender?

Minimum requirements vary by flag state and operating area. Most require a compass, VHF radio, navigation lights, and basic safety equipment. Offshore-rated tenders typically need GPS, AIS, and EPIRB/PLB in addition.

Do you supply complete flag-state compliance packages?

Yes. We build tender safety packages to specific flag-state requirements including MCA (UK), Cayman Islands, Marshall Islands, and Malta. Each package includes all mandatory LSA, FSA, and signalling equipment.

What chartplotter do you recommend for a tender?

Garmin GPSMAP and Raymarine Axiom2 are the most popular for tenders due to their compact size, reliability, and touchscreen operation. Selection depends on helm space and integration with mothership systems.

Are LED navigation lights approved for all flag states?

Yes. Modern LED navigation lights meet COLREG (International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea) requirements and are accepted by all major flag states. They offer longer life and lower power draw than incandescent alternatives.

What life jackets do you supply for tender use?

We supply Spinlock, Crewsaver, and Viking inflatable and foam life jackets. For superyacht tenders, inflatable PFDs with integrated harness and crotch strap (150N or 275N) are standard for guest and crew use.

Do tenders need an EPIRB or PLB?

PLBs (personal locator beacons) are recommended for all tender operations. EPIRBs are typically required only on larger chase boats operating independently. Flag-state rules and your yacht's SMS (Safety Management System) determine the exact requirement.

Can you retrofit electronics to an existing tender?

Yes. We supply all components and provide wiring diagrams and technical support for retrofit installations. For complex installations, we coordinate with electronics technicians at your marina or yard.

What fire extinguishers are required on a tender?

Most flag states require at least one 2kg dry powder extinguisher for tenders under 8m. Larger tenders and those with enclosed cabins require additional units. We supply MED (Marine Equipment Directive) approved extinguishers with mounting brackets.
