Frequently Asked Questions

What size anchor do I need for my yacht?

Anchor size depends on vessel displacement, wind conditions, and seabed type. General rule: 1kg per meter of LOA for cruising; 1.5kg per meter for deep-water vessels. We recommend a professional assessment with your naval architect for optimal holding power.

What is the difference between anchor types?

Plow anchors dig deep and hold well in mud and sand. Delta anchors provide excellent holding with minimal swing radius. Danforth anchors work best in sand. Fortress anchors are ultra-lightweight and high-holding-power. We'll recommend the best type based on your typical cruising areas.

How often should windlass chain be inspected?

Chain should be inspected annually for wear, corrosion, and link deformation. We recommend professional ultrasonic testing every 3-5 years depending on usage. Any damaged links should be removed immediately and replaced.

What does SWL mean for shackles and swivels?

Safe Working Load (SWL) is the maximum static load a component can safely handle. For anchoring systems, all hardware must be rated for at least 2-3x the maximum expected load. Always choose components with safety margins above your vessel's weight and wind forces.

Can you upgrade my existing windlass?

Yes, we can supply upgrade kits for most major windlass brands. We can replace motors, controllers, gypsies, and brake systems. Provide your current windlass model and we'll identify compatible upgrade options with minimal deck modifications.

What certifications do your anchoring components carry?

All anchors and chain comply with ABS, DNV, Lloyd's, and maritime standards. Shackles and hardware meet certification requirements. We supply original manufacturer documentation and test certificates with every order.

Do you offer installation and commissioning services?

We coordinate with certified marine riggers worldwide for professional installation, testing, and commissioning. We can arrange technician support or simply supply components for your local team. Contact us for specific arrangements and lead times.

What is your lead time for complete anchoring packages?

Standard components ship within 1-2 weeks. Custom chain lengths and windlass orders may take 4-8 weeks. Emergency expediting available for critical repairs. We'll confirm exact lead times with your quote.
