Product Overview

The three RAMBSS module sizes side by side - Module 500, Module 750 and Module 1500 - each with a front status touchscreen, ventilation grille and stainless latch, sharing a common 600 by 600 mm footprint so they stack and line up.
The three RAMBSS module heights share one footprint, so they stack and combine to suit the space available.

RAMBSS (Raclan Maritime Battery Safety System) is a purpose-built modular lithium battery fire safety system designed for the superyacht industry. Each module provides a complete safety enclosure for lithium battery storage and active charging, with integrated monitoring, fire detection, automatic extinguishing, and toxic gas filtration.

The system is built around robust composite enclosures, each equipped with TRIDENT® coolant (water-based, environmentally friendly) + fresh water submersion (2-stage response), multi-stage hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas filtration, active fanned cooling, 80 dB acoustic alarm, thermal switch triggering at a manufacturer-set threshold that our bundled documents do not state, and internal emergency backup power (six weeks per datasheet; system-level fail-safe monitoring up to 90 days per LiVault compliance documentation). RAMBSS modules connect to the vessel's onboard alarm and monitoring control system (AMCS) and provide WiFi remote monitoring via a built-in touch screen interface.

Multi-stage HF filtration. The figures we can cite come from DMT test 8123007288-30 on the RACLAN Square (maximum HF below 95 ppm; 15-minute interval below 34 ppm); we do not hold equivalent published test data for the RAMBSS modules and make no performance claim for them on that basis.

Emergency Backup Power

What the approval covers

LiVault's announcement of 15 September 2026 states that the approved RAMBSS arrangement includes: a rigid, fire-resistant protective enclosure; closed-door charging; automatic interruption of charging during a detected abnormal event; integrated smoke and temperature detection; cooling and fire-suppression activation; controlled pressure relief; gas filtration and treatment; local alarm indication; integration with the vessel's alarm and monitoring system; and a maximum permitted total stored battery energy of 5.2 kWh. LiVault also report this to be the first Lloyd's Register Type Approval issued for lithium-ion battery storage and charging containers.

RISE test evidence

Per LiVault's announcement, the RISE report assessed a 5.2 kWh NMC module containing 576 cylindrical 18650 cells. During the test a cell entered thermal runaway, the detection system activated, cooling and water-flooding systems operated, and propagation to adjacent cells was prevented. The report also recorded pressure-relief operation, gas filtration, and no significant temperature rise on the nearby instrumented walls. Testing used selected principles of UL 9540A and UL 1487 rather than full compliance with those standards. We have not seen the RISE report itself.

Lloyd's Register Type Approval

Lloyd's Register Type Approval certificate LR26434348SF, a Certificate of Fire Approval issued 12 September 2026 and valid to 11 September 2031, referencing MGN 681 Amendment 1 Sections 4.12 and 4.13, with a maximum permitted total stored battery energy of 5.2 kWh. Design Appraisal Document LR26434348SF forms part of the certificate. Final acceptance remains subject to the applicable Flag Administration and vessel-specific requirements.

DMT TÜV Nord CERT

Test program: M02/22. Independent safety testing and certification by DMT TÜV Nord.

MGN 681 (M) Amendment 1

Aligned with MCA guidance on fire safety and storage of small electric powered craft on yachts. Independently tested in several areas.

How It Works

Place Charger and Battery Inside Module

Open the module, place your battery charger and lithium battery pack inside the composite enclosure.

Plug Charger Into Internal Socket

Connect the charger to the module's internal charging socket. The module provides a controlled power supply to the charger.

Electronics Monitor Temperature and Gas

The module's onboard electronics continuously monitor internal temperature and gas levels throughout the entire charge cycle.

Active Fanned Cooling

Integrated fans maintain safe internal temperatures during charging, preventing heat build-up that could initiate thermal runaway.

Thermal Runaway Response

If the thermal switch triggers at a threshold not stated in our bundled documents: the module sounds an 80 dB acoustic alarm, cuts power to the charger, floods the interior with TRIDENT® coolant (water-based, environmentally friendly) followed by fresh water submersion (2-stage response), and activates multi-stage HF gas filtration to reduce the toxic gases released into crew spaces.

Manufacturer statement: the LiVault MGN 681 compliance document states the exhaust system reduces off-gas temperature to below 100°C. That is a gas temperature, not an external module surface temperature, and we hold no RAMBSS surface-temperature test result.

Design Appraisal Document LR26434348SF forms part of the certificate. The certificate was issued by Lloyd's Register Marine Polska sp. z o.o. MGN 681 Amendment 1 Section 5.1 separately requires approval by a UK Nominated Body as defined in Annex 2 of MSN 1874 for containers placed on board UK-registered vessels from 1 January 2027; we are confirming with the manufacturer whether this certificate meets that route, and will publish the answer here. Vessel acceptance is a separate matter for the Flag Administration. The system has also been tested under DMT TÜV Nord CERT test programme M02/22.

What batteries fit inside RAMBSS modules?

Specify per module. All three modules carry a maximum total stored battery energy of 5.2 kWh, and the Lloyd's Register certificate states a maximum permitted total stored battery energy of 5.2 kWh, subject to its other conditions, so do not plan those modules above 5.2 kWh. Module 1 (500) (60 × 60 × 50 cm) fits e-foil batteries and smaller water toy packs. Module 2 (750) (60 × 60 × 75 cm) fits larger battery packs and multiple batteries. Module 3 (1500) (60 × 60 × 152 cm) fits Seabobs with their integrated batteries. Weight on application. Compatible with Fliteboard, Audi e-tron Aerofoils, Liftfoils, Awake, Seabob, Lampuga, Radinn, Jetsurf, and all other lithium-powered water toys.

How does RAMBSS connect to the vessel's alarm system?

RAMBSS integrates with the vessel's onboard alarm and monitoring control system (AMCS) for centralised safety oversight. Each module also includes a built-in touch screen interface for local status monitoring and WiFi remote monitoring capability, allowing crew to check module status from anywhere on board. Alarms are routed through the vessel's existing safety architecture.
